In California, if you don't pay the registration fee, and get popped for an expired registration, you have to pay a fine, plus the delinquent registration, plus any late fees. At a certain point, they can tow your car. And then the fees can really start adding up.
Yup, and it doesn't matter if you sold the car 5 years ago to someone out of state and bought it again from a guy who never registered it our of state. CA DMV will make you pay all of it or withhold your registration. Found that out the hard way with a GTO I sold and bought back. 🤦‍♂️🐩

LOL Just over a tank in my Blazer. 🤪🐩
Misery loves company. Gas prices near us are $5.859 per gallon. 35 us gallons in an F-150 Raptor so $205 and change. My wife paid $7 per gallon in San Mateo or Burlingame a month or so ago before returning her rental car. I have an EV reserved for my late August trip to the Bay Area. All things considered, I don’t think it’ll end up being that much more expensive.

Most gas prices in the Bay Area are around $5.60 to $6.30 a gallon. If she paid $7 a gallon, then it was one of the predatory stations near SFO airport that prey on people returning rental vehicles. We just filled up in SSF at Costco for $5.599 a gallon.

Rounding up, I think her exact words were “Close to $7 per gallon.” I dunno, i wasn’t listening … Just ask her. ;)

Plus we’re no longer Costco members and probably never will be again. Far too much driving for too little discount (100+ miles round trip). The lines for Costco gas were horrid before the $1 per gallon run up in price, and the place us is an overcrowded zoo from opening to closing time. Worse on cruise ship days. Go figure, You're on an Inter island cruise. You have a port of call in Kailua Kona. Home of Kona coffee, the painted church, a short drive to see endangered Hawaiian sea turtles snd critically endangered Hawaiian Monk seals. The first Hawaiian Kingdom palace is there. Parker Ranch is a 45 minute drive away. Place of refuge, 2 other national parks within 30 minutes. So what do they do?

Choose 1:

1. Go to Costco. Its a Hawaiian Costco!
2. Go to Target! It’s a Hawaiian Target!
3. Go to Walmart! It’s … you get the idea. ;)

Gas at Costco here is about as high as what you’re paying. Its easier to buy in Waimea Easier yet to plug the mme in. :) Cheaper too, by a longshot.

Due to our different blend gas is always more expensive compared to most of the other states, but we do seem to have our fair share of tourist trap gougers when it comes to jacking up prices beyond what is reasonable. Mendocino & Gorda are really bad.

I just paid $664 for license on my 2021 MME. And, starting July 1, Minnesota will add an eight cent tax per kWh. Making my road tax twice what an efficient ICE will pay. Ridiculous.

Our registration fee are partially based on weight, so EVs trend higher. In addition there is a per mike fee to the road fund. Mileage is read during the annual state safety inspection and use for the mileage fee. That fee is capped at $50 max. A same year (2021) Toyota Corolla getting a combined 32 mpg, with the same 10,000 miles per year will pay $123 in state and local gas tax.

Meanwhile, our F150 Raptor weighs more than the mme, pays more registration fees, and at 10,000 miles per year would pay and additional $263 in state and local gas tax.

The average miles driven per year in the state are around 11,500.

That would really piss me off ….😡😁
Why? ICE Cars pay it as well through gas taxes. More gas used means more wear and tear tear on the roadways. More mileage means more wear and tear on the roadways. You don’t get something for free just because you have sn ev.

I’m pretty sure TampaMike is ticked that they charge extra for each person in the car named Mike.

There's a couple of stations near SFO that are easily 50 cents to a dollar more expensive than the Costco just down the street. Or even in the town I live in. Has nothing to do with the more expensive blend California requires. I'm used to that.
