I figured since I'm doing it I'll post a how to...

Ok here is the deal: You are on that epic cross country cannonball run in your brand new Mach-E and find yourself down to 10 miles remaining and you're in South Dakota, Utah, Montanna, Alaska, Michigan's UP, etc. where there aren't many DCFC's or Level-2's even..a charging desert.

Out of desparation you go to KOA.com or campgroundreviews.com and find a campground ("Lucky Joe's Luxury RV Resort" perhaps?) within 3 miles. Quickly you give them a call...what do you ask for?

"Hello Lucky Joe's Luxury RV Resort..?" "um er, I want to charge?" "What?" <- don't do this.

The simple thing is to ask for a 50 amp site:

"Hello Lucky Joe's Luxury RV Resort..?" "Hello do you happen to have any 50 amp sites available for a few hours? I'm driving an EV and am in dire need of a charge?" "Why yes, pull on in. While your charging enjoy some of our buffalo wings sitting in our Mach-E out front!"

Now a 50 amp site will look like this (ok most of them will):
Your 14-50 plug is on the left, the middle plug is a 30 amp (120V) plug and of course the right plug is your standard household jack (although some of these will be 20 amps).

And, yes, they may look all dirty like that. Plug your Ford charger in and into the car and wait...

(Yes here I also have our RV plugged in--and to water--you'll only be using the 14-50. You'll also charge faster with the Ford EVSE than the 20 amp Clipper Creek I'm using here.)

Most RV parks won't complain (especially if they charge you a few dollars for your troubles) as the big RV's that use these plugs use about the same amount of current as you will (of course not continuously unless its 100F out and both their A/C's are cranking full time).

Thats about it: While you are waiting check ABRP or PlugShare to see the closest DCFC, add in some overage and wait long enough until you can go that far.... Easy Peasy (of course not what you planned but hey it will do in a pinch).

Besides, Lucky Joe's Luxury RV Resort may have some tasty bites at their restaurant or some shuffleboard or basketball or mini-golf or shrimp cocktail....

Keep your swimsuit handy. Lots of RV parks have pools.

I've never been to an RV park in my life, but now I want to go check one out when I get my EV.

Out of curiosity, how much is "a few dollars"? Are we talking like $5, or like $20?

If that's the best emergency backup, might be worth it to just stick around the EA charger longer and build up a bigger safety buffer.

Depends on the park. I doubt they'd charge you for a nights fee (also varies greatly from $20 to $125 if you're at Disney or NYC). I doubt they have a standard rate for any of this (a local park here charged me $10 to use a site for about an hour once).

I would guess <$20 I've never asked to "just charge" since we always have our RV with us when we're at an RV park (go figure LOL). I bet it would be up to the person you're talking to: "Sure $5 for 2 hours" lol.

Brings back memories of my younger days at our state parks here in OH. I would LOVE to actually take my MME camping. Unfortunately, my wife thinks "roughing it" is a Disney Value resort.

Or something to do while on vacation. Now that I have a Mach-E I can post pics of it charging in a campground:

Or not as a last resort as here are some more pictures of my Mach-E charging at a campground:

Ford Mustang Mach-E Campground Charging--as a last resort 2021-10-07 18.47.21

Note that the car was about 6' further away from the 14-50 plug than my ClipperCreek LCS-25P could reach so I had to dig out the J1772 extension cord.

For those of you in Michigan: This is at the Frankenmuth Jellystone Park.

On a 2,000 mile road trip I took in my Mach-E I did a number of overnights at RV parks to charge the car and sleep in the back. Super cost effective way to travel in this car, since I can get a near full charge overnight and a safe place to park and sleep.

Can you think of a charging arrangement that would work for a TT-30 outlet? Just got back from a stay in Ludington state park with some friends -- the park campgrounds only had a handful of 50A sites which were all booked, but everyone had a 30A (120V) connection. Even 24A (for 80% draw) at 120V is almost 2.9kW -- not super fast, but decently better than a conventional 120V outlet.

I sure wish Ford would consider releasing more plug adapters for the mobile charger like the Tesla UMC. I do have a teslatap, and though about getting one (UMC) for the road, but I am also realistically not going to use the less common connectors THAT often...

I've never RVed before. Is this "allowed"? To sleep in a non RV there? I know I've heard people getting a window knock from cops while sleeping at regular "rest" stops off the highway. But If I can sleep at an RV park in my car? That's pretty cool and good to know.

Am I reading this wrong or are you saying people get hassled by cops for resting at rest areas?? ? ?

Well, for sleeping, yea. It's kind of annoying IMO, but I guess they don't want the rest stops turning into camping spots. Taking some time to chill or stretch your legs in the attached food court has never been a problem. But try to count some sheep overnight and you might wake up to someone with a badge asking you to leave.

Overlanding...Mustang Mach-E style. Nice. Keep your food/beverage on ice in the frunk!
