I figured since I'm doing it I'll post a how to...
Ok here is the deal: You are on that epic cross country cannonball run in your brand new Mach-E and find yourself down to 10 miles remaining and you're in South Dakota, Utah, Montanna, Alaska, Michigan's UP, etc. where there aren't many DCFC's or Level-2's even..a charging desert.
Out of desparation you go to KOA.com or campgroundreviews.com and find a campground ("Lucky Joe's Luxury RV Resort" perhaps?) within 3 miles. Quickly you give them a call...what do you ask for?
"Hello Lucky Joe's Luxury RV Resort..?" "um er, I want to charge?" "What?" <- don't do this.
The simple thing is to ask for a 50 amp site:
"Hello Lucky Joe's Luxury RV Resort..?" "Hello do you happen to have any 50 amp sites available for a few hours? I'm driving an EV and am in dire need of a charge?" "Why yes, pull on in. While your charging enjoy some of our buffalo wings sitting in our Mach-E out front!"
Now a 50 amp site will look like this (ok most of them will):
Your 14-50 plug is on the left, the middle plug is a 30 amp (120V) plug and of course the right plug is your standard household jack (although some of these will be 20 amps).
And, yes, they may look all dirty like that. Plug your Ford charger in and into the car and wait...
(Yes here I also have our RV plugged in--and to water--you'll only be using the 14-50. You'll also charge faster with the Ford EVSE than the 20 amp Clipper Creek I'm using here.)
Most RV parks won't complain (especially if they charge you a few dollars for your troubles) as the big RV's that use these plugs use about the same amount of current as you will (of course not continuously unless its 100F out and both their A/C's are cranking full time).
Thats about it: While you are waiting check ABRP or PlugShare to see the closest DCFC, add in some overage and wait long enough until you can go that far.... Easy Peasy (of course not what you planned but hey it will do in a pinch).
Besides, Lucky Joe's Luxury RV Resort may have some tasty bites at their restaurant or some shuffleboard or basketball or mini-golf or shrimp cocktail....
