I circled the slots that the clips go into. You can see here that what you want to do is pull down away from the windshield. Start with the upper left clip and then you can really get your fingers under it.
Here's what it looks like under there. You can see where the cover clips in, and the wiring connector is a bit obscured by the mirror, but you can see it there on the right.
You just pull down on it. I have a Dongar brand that doesn't seem to be available currently. It is essentially the same as this one.
Move the mirror down, pull down on the cover to pop it loose, then unplug the mirror power and add this adapter between the two connectors. I used a hot glue...
At least the additional $267 you pay to register an EV in Michigan is equal to the gasoline tax that an average driver would pay (25 MPG vehicle going 12,000 miles per year). That being said, I wish they would just switch everyone (ICE & EV) over to a per mile tax. I would pay more than I do...
I apologize for hijacking the thread with that long post. Here is a simpler way to put it: If I drive Uber for 240,000 miles in my Mach-E, that will make me $300,000. Would you feel bad about using up a $29k tool if it made you $300,000?
I would not consider driving Uber with a $60k car, either. Like I said, my Mach-E cost me $29k. That was at the very top of my range. At the time, a similar age and mileage Prius would have cost me about the same. But let's say I bought one with much higher mileage and/or a bit older for...
And that's really the thing, isn't it? I drive a lot, since I drive for Uber... about 60k miles per year. A similar ICE car over on this side of the pond would get about 24 MPG (you have better options in the UK). My electric is about 20 cents per kWh vs gasoline at about $3.50/gallon on...
When it comes to longevity of a car, most of that is up to the opinion of the owner. I know people who have gotten rid of a car because the alternator or starter died and left them stranded. They lost all confidence in the car and "had to" get rid of it. I know people who can't stand to own a...
Use a bike lock cable — the kind that is a plastic-coated cable with a loop on either end like this one. Run it through the spokes of your wheel and padlock it to your charger’s cord.
It sucks… but is pretty much my lifetime experience with vehicle warranty/service bulletin repairs. If I had the choice, I would gladly have a dealership take $1,000 off the price of a new car and give me zero warranty. In my lifetime, that would have worked out in my favor without a doubt.
My phone stays connected to the MME from pretty much anywhere in the house. And my car is out in the driveway. I have started to turn off Bluetooth on my phone when I get home to keep the car from “turning on” as if I am approaching it.
Dang. That sucks. Not surprising, but it sucks. I was getting water into my lights (the hatch-mounted portion), so I looked up the TSB procedure and basically they just put butyl tape on it. I had a roll of butyl tape left over from some RV roof vent repairs, so I just did it myself. Saved...
Good suggestion. Yes, I did check with a multimeter and got nothing. I also unplugged it and took a look and everything looked fine. Plugged back and still nothing. So weird. To my knowledge, nobody has been in there. I don’t think any of the recalls involved going in there.
No joy. Took the side panel off and the wiring is attached securely. Just no juice. I’m hoping I checked the right fuses. They are both labeled “auxiliary power point.”
No warranty… I’m at 100,000 miles.
Title says it all. My rear 12v outlet stopped working for no apparent reason. I assumed it was a fuse. I removed the frunk tub and checked the fuse. It tested as good. I even swapped it with the center console 12v outlet fuse and nothing changed.
The fuses in question are #61 and #71...
I just had these installed in my Mach-E earlier today! They were a little cheaper than the OEM tires (at least with the $100 instant rebate). I bought my 2023 used with 16k miles on it. The Ford dealership where I bought it had just installed a set of cheap Chinese Delinte tires in it. When...
Not a bad idea. I actually bring along a 16 amp L2/L2 charger so that I can charge up faster if a 208/240V outlet is available. I also bring a handful of adapters. My portable charger is a Webasto TurboCord Dual, which has a NEMA 6-20 plug and an adapter to 5-15. I also carry adapters that...
Dang… I thought hitting 90,000 miles this morning was pretty cool. I’ve got nothing on this guy!
I bought my 2023 MME slightly used in 2024. Since then, I’ve averaged about 1,000 miles per week. Not only do I drive Uber and Empower, but I also like to take a few good road trips per year. I...
Just because the insurance company won’t pay for all of the repairs doesn’t mean it’s not fixable. It just means you’d be out of pocket for the remainder. With a newer car, it is probably best to go with their opinion. But with an older, or high mileage car, sometimes they lowball the value of...
As long as you’re using the Tesla 10-30 plug and not a 14-50 to 10-30 adapter, then you’ll be fine.
As for the Tesla to J-1772 adapter — just use a name-brand one. I use a Lectron one, and it has been working perfectly for years. I originally used it with my Bolt, and now the Mach-E. The...
